Face to face networking IS the most powerful way to build relationships with new clients while staying in touch with existing ones. As someone that attends a wide range of networking meetings, I was somewhat taken back by the number of people who have not done their homework.
An example of this was one person looked straight down the list of attendees at a recent meeting to see who else was attending. “No one really good for me here then” comment was made at the end. I asked myself how does he know that.
Unless you get to know other business people, you will never know who else they could put you in touch with. I have been a strong believer that unless you put hard work into networking, you are not going to get the maximum out of it. Spend time talking to other attendees and get to know them and their business. I will guarantee that by asking the right questions and listening to what others have to say, you WILL get to meet new potential clients.

Throughout the UK, there are lots of different groups and organisations offering networking meetings for businesses to attend. We have found that many small traders are not taking an advantage of these and could be missing out on business.
In a survey we are currently carrying out, one question asks if one belongs to any local groups or organisations and a very small amount of those who completed the form have given yes as an answer. We then ask for what reasons do they not join and most give answers like “Can’t afford it”, “Doesn’t work” or simply “Didn’t know we could do it”.
Small businesses need in this current climate to get out and network. Face to Face Marketing is the most powerful way of building and keeping relationships with other businesses. Membership fees should be seen as investments, not costs. Time and effort is everything. The more you put in – the more you will get back in return.
Lastly, You will never know who you will meet or who they know. Networking is the only way of building these bridges and unless you spend a little time each week or month attending a group near you, you will loose out to a local competitor.

The power of Networking
The Power of Networking in Business
No matter of what business you are in anywhere around the world, there is no other better way to build relationships with new or existing clients than networking. This could be either face to face, social networking or joining organisations.
Face to Face Marketing
Networking groups take place all over the world. Some work while others in no other words Don’t. Some will charge you a membership fee, others charge you a attendence fee while others will do both. Depending on how much time and energy into a group will determine on how much you will get out of it.
Social Networking
Over the last few years, social networking for business on sites like Linkedin, Facebook, Myspace or Twitter has opened up the global market like nothing seen before. Years ago, it would of cost thousands of pounds and trade missions over the world to create a working friendship with a supplier of customer. Today, using the power of the Internet and Social networking sites, you can get the ball rolling for free.
